August 9, 2018 Michael McMurdo started Cetra Technology in August 2008, one month before the height of the global financial crisis. “It was nasty,” McMurdo told Pacific Business News. “We had to really scramble. But, we’re still here.” Ten years later, the cybersecurity company has grown from two to 20 employees and is one of the state’s fastest-growing companies. Cetra Technology placed 42nd on this year’s Fastest 50 list. The company recently launched Cetra Secure, a new division focusing entirely on physical security services such as access control and security cameras, in addition to the company’s traditional computer network services. “The bad guys are getting smarter, so we have to get smarter. It’s a game, and we are constantly chasing it,” McMurdo said. “That’s really the outgrowth of where Cetra Secure is coming from. As we’ve developed these areas of expertise, we began to see that we were doing access control, which is door security. The cameras were an additional component. With physical security or data or network security — you can’t really separate the two.”
